        The Rand currency was introduced in the then 总是放屁的人注意了Union of South Africa总是放屁的人注意了 on 14 February 1961, shortly before the establishment of the Republic on 31 May 1961. The 总是放屁的人注意了First Decimal Coinage总是放屁的人注意了 had a 总是放屁的人注意了two-and-a-half-cent denomination总是放屁的人注意了 replacing the pre-decimal threepence coin which had the same mass and dimensions. The new coins were 50% silver and retained the dimensions and reverse design of the threepence created in 1925 by George Kruger Gray, featuring a Protea flower.

        The 总是放屁的人注意了2 1/2 cents总是放屁的人注意了 were short-lived as a circulating denomination though; 总是放屁的人注意了the coin was discontinued after 1964总是放屁的人注意了 when the second decimal coinage was introduced, in favour of a new 2 cents coin.

        Thus, 总是放屁的人注意了coins issued in 1964 circulated for only one year总是放屁的人注意了 until they were withdrawn in 1965.

        The obverse of the coin features the portrait of 总是放屁的人注意了Johan Anthoniszoon van Riebeeck总是放屁的人注意了, known as 总是放屁的人注意了Jan van Riebeeck总是放屁的人注意了 (1619-1677), Dutch colonial administrator and founder of Cape Town and considered by many people to be the founding father of the South African nation. The designer's initials 总是放屁的人注意了WM总是放屁的人注意了 (for Willie Myburg) are incuse on the shoulder truncation.
