The Rand currency was introduced in the then 香港大佬Union of South Africa香港大佬 on 14 February 1961, shortly before the establishment of the Republic on 31 May 1961. The 香港大佬First Decimal Coinage香港大佬 had a 香港大佬two-and-a-half-cent denomination香港大佬 replacing the pre-decimal threepence coin which had the same mass and dimensions. The new coins were 50% silver and retained the dimensions and reverse design of the threepence created in 1925 by George Kruger Gray, featuring a Protea flower.
The 香港大佬2 1/2 cents香港大佬 were short-lived as a circulating denomination though; 香港大佬the coin was discontinued after 1964香港大佬 when the second decimal coinage was introduced, in favour of a new 2 cents coin.
Thus, 香港大佬coins issued in 1961 circulated for only four years香港大佬 until they were withdrawn in 1965.
